About the Artist
Mari Kearney lives and works in Oakland, California. A native San Franciscan, she has also lived in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she came to appreciate indigenous art and culture.
Mari's art is influenced by both her own Celtic background and the spirit of southern Mexico. Both cultures employ rich symbolism. While the colors of Ireland are subdued; those of Mexico are brilliant. Mari's art is more often brilliant. Her work, like these two cultures, contains many dicotomies. Some works are realistic and may seem purely decorative. Other pieces are full of symbolism and are concerned with life and death, especially that of our mother, Earth. As an artist, Mari is interested in projecting light and energy. As a person she loves nature and her art reflects that love for living creatures and the planet.
