About the Artist
Mari Kearney lives and works in Oakland, California. A native San Franciscan, she lived with the Giron family in Oaxaca, during numerous Mexico visits. In Oaxaca, Mari came to appreciate Southern Mexico's rich cultural heritage and indigenous art.
Besides the usual influences of any San Francisco Bay Area artist, Mari's art is influenced by her Celtic background and by the spirit of Oaxaca. Both cultures employ rich symbolism. Her work, like these two cultures, contains many dicotomies. Some art is realistic and may seem purely decorative. Mari is passionate about saving the fragile ecosystem of our planet so, naturally, some works reflect this passion, often in a surrealistic manner. As an artist, Mari is interested in projecting light and energy. As a person she loves nature and her art reflects that love for living creatures and the planet.
